Dear Anxious, Impostor Syndrome-Ridden Copywriter,
I wish I could tell you that this was a letter that had a cure-all for those voices in your head.
Unfortunately, it isn’t. Or at least, it’s not what this letter is meant to be.
All I can tell you is this: you’re not alone.
You’re not the only writer who’s gotten anxious about the sheer freedom and wide expanse of possibilities before you. What others see as a playground, you see as high stakes to create something worthy of an AdWeek article. After all, you have that freedom, right? What a shame if you did something derivative!
You’re not the only copywriter who’s gotten shocked at tight timelines. And you won’t be the last. But hey, if the pace of your current job is enough to excite you and keep you from boredom, that’s already a lot to be thankful for.
You’re not the only professional writer with two, three, maybe five years of experience under their belt, wondering if they truly deserved the promotions they got. Second-guessing if there was some other reason they got the job - instead of believing that it was their own talent and hard work.
And this also means that you’re not the only copywriter - or person - who can go through anxiety and impostor syndrome… and still survive. And even thrive.
So take it one day at a time. One task at a time. One approval or compliment at a time.
Do what you need to do to stay sane. Go to therapy (if you can). Use your paid leaves. Find someone you can trust and talk to.
You got this. We got this!
